Feed manufacturer Duffields is to close its manufacturing site at Yarcombe, in Devon, at the end of April due to a rule change that means it can no longer use red diesel.
Duffields, which produces feed for the pigs, poultry, cattle, sheep and game bird sectors, said that unlike the rest of the group, the Yarcombe site is powered by a diesel generator.
“Until April 2022 this generator used red diesel but unfortunately on 1st April 2022 HMRC removed the duty exemption on red diesel for our use. This change has significantly increased the running costs of the site.
“Unfortunately, the site is no longer considered viable. We are grateful for all the hard work and commitment from the staff employed at Yarcombe.
“We will continue to offer high quality products and services to our South West customers through our recently upgraded Yeovil site.”
