A new forum for pig-building and fixed-equipment suppliers has been formed, with eight companies represented.
Facilitated by BPEX and chaired by Nigel Penlington, the first meeting was held on September 26. Participants discussed issues all the companies faced, as well as getting updates on relevant research, technical developments, legislation, potential funding opportunities and farmer-focused knowledge transfer activity – at a precompetitive level.
The meetings are likely to be held on a six-monthly basis, with regular email updates in between.

The first meeting also focused on proposed revisions to the European Commission’s (EC) BREF document, which looks at best-available techniques for pig and poultry production under the EC’s Industrial Emissions Directive. This could have a significant impact on the pig sector if approved by the EC in its current format.
