Innovative meat products and new easy-to-cook recipes were presented during a major event at the European Parliament (EP) in Brussels yesterday (June 20) in the first follow-on display of the livestock counts campaign organised by Copa & Cogeca.
Hosted by MEP, Michel Dantin, and featuring recipes prepared by top EU chefs, the EP showcase marked the beginning of an extensive promotional programme which is due to run throughout 2016 and 2017.
“We want to show the public the nutritious benefits of eating meat and promote the new innovative easy to cook recipes that are being developed,” said Copa & Cogeca secretary-general, Pekka Pesonen.
“We also want to show positive images of the high production standards farmers and their cooperatives meet and show to the public what farmers are doing to tackle upcoming challenges like anti-microbial resistance”
MEP Dantin, former EP rapporteur on CAP reform, told the gathering of more than 200 guests that the livestock counts campaign was a “much-needed” move on behalf of the industry, adding that the EP would continue to support farmers, working to help make the sector more structured and competitive in non-EU markets.
A planned programme of events and actions, based on the livestock counts campaign, will take place every month throughout 2016/17 across Europe. These will include press events, farm visits, a cookery brochure and videos presenting new easy to cook recipes, hosted twitter debates, leaflets and videos showing what farmers and their cooperatives are doing to meet high production standards.
