Europe’s farmers and farm cooperatives are to stage a protest in Brussels on September 7, carefully timed to coincide with the EU farm ministers’ emergency meeting on the current farm sector crisis.
The protest, announced today by Copa-cogeca, is designed to highlight the “drastic EU dairy, pork, beef, fruit & veg situation” which has already led to farmer action in many member states.
The September 7 protest will begin at 14.00 and will take place outside the venue for the EU farm ministers meeting, which was announced by the European Commission earlier this week.
The selected ministers’ meeting date, of course, will still allow EU commissioners, officials and staff to enjoy their normal August holiday without disruption.
The farmers’ protest follows extensive demonstrations in France, Spain and Northern Ireland.
