The National Pig Awards are all about celebrating the very best of the British pig industry – and entering them can deliver a huge boost to teams and individuals.
This year’s event will see 15 National Pig Awards handed out at a gala ceremony in London in November that will, once again, bring the pig industry together for its biggest night of the year.
Over their first 10 years, the awards have done a huge amount to highlight the great work done by winners and finalists. For some businesses and individuals, the profile and prestige has seen them go onto greater things and continue to fly the flag for the British pig industry.
Head judge Stewart Houston highlighted the potential benefits of entering. “We have had some fantastic entries over the years – and it has been a privilege to have a direct insight into the many great business that form the backbone of our industry.
“If you are considering giving it a go, I would really encourage you to do so. The winners have been such great ambassadors for the industry – and we so often hear how just being a finalist, let alone winning, gives such a lift to the individuals or teams involved.
“And all finalists receive two free tickets to the big night!”
Here are some of the comments on the night from last year’s winners:
“I’m blown away to win two awards. It’s great to see all our hard work recognised. People are the biggest thing in our industry, and we need to keep looking after our team. It’s really nice to come here and celebrate altogether.”
Charlie Thompson, director of Bridge House Farm, Overall and Indoor Pig Producer of the Year
“It’s great to be recognised for being young and in the industry. We’re moving with the times, and it’s onwards and upwards from this point.”
Oliver Killgallon, Young Pig Farmer of the Year
“It’s a real honour to win this award – it means a huge amount and it’s great recognition of all our hard work.”
James Ross, Unit Manager of the Year
“We’re absolutely chuffed to bits to win. It’s something we’ve worked really hard for – a real team effort.”
Meryl Ward, Lincolnshire Pork Co, Sustainable Farming Award
