Ladies in Pigs chairwoman Debbie Wilson provides an update ahead of a busy spring and summer promoting British pork.
How is it already 34 years since LIPs (Ladies in Pigs) started their journey?
As we have just finished the first term of the 2025 with school visits, and we are embarking on our spring and summer jaunts across the UK, it seemed a good time to update you on what have planned and our progress since our last update.
In the past year we have visited 97 schools and worked with well over 10,000 children and young adults ranging from 3-18. These days are all mapped to the different curriculums and consider alternative learning providers as well.
These sessions comprise of a hands-on cooking and a meet the farmer session – and we also provide other resources for the teachers to use either on the day or in the future to compliment the message we are delivering.
We, of course, focus on pork and the work done to put our amazing product on the table, but we also show the children that high welfare food in Britain is not confined to just pork, and we encourage them to look out for as many as they can when they are out and about with the adults they live with.
As the children get older, along with food provenance, we also discuss careers and use our free resource on our website and industry expertise to encourage as many to join our sector as we can.
Promoting our industry
In addition to these events, we also support the promotion of our industry with events across the UK, including demonstrations, exhibiting at trade events, attending networking events – to name but a few.
We have an amazing team of ladies (and gents), who work tirelessly to deliver these days across the UK, and we are always open to new members joining us. If you have a few hours or days to spare, you are most welcome!
One of the best days of the year is our Spring Social and AGM, where we get a chance to meet up and have a social day, whilst keeping abreast of all things LIPs in the AGM.
This day is open to members to attend (although places are limited due to H & S) any members reading this who wish to attend, please contact me on any of the methods below before April 23 as places are disappearing fast! This year we are being hosted by Cannon Hall Farm, near Barnsley, which we are most grateful for, and we are really looking forward to our visit on April 30.
New cookbook
We sold out of our last cookbook in 2024, so another exciting development for us is that we have created a new version of our favourite recipes; but with some exciting new sections.
You will find a lot of your favourite all time recipes in there, but there are these new things too!
- Alternative cooking section for air fryers, ninjas etc
- A children’s section for the smaller people in your life
- A desserts section – as you know, we always have some kind of sweet dish on offer “as everything tastes better with bacon”! This includes gelato amongst other things.
Another new development with this book is that we are offering the book in three different formats – eBook, paperback and hardback – very 21st Century! To order your copy and have it delivered to your door please follow this link.
Supporting our work
To help us meet the overwhelming demand for our visits, we have created a GoFundMe page for anyone who wishes to donate towards our work. Please scan the QR code, right.
It’s always a good idea to keep an eye out on our social media pages for our events that are coming up and feel free to drop in for a visit and see the work first hand! Please like, share and tag us, as we are trying to increase our reach and followers.
We are, as we have always been, passionate about the work our industry does to provide the fantastic pork and bacon to consumers, and we are looking forward to continuing that well into the future, as there is much still to be done!
