Thames Valley Cambac has reported that trading for the New Year has brought little cheer so far.
Everybody will be happy to see the back of 2020 for many reasons, TVC said in its latest market update.
“Demand was poor and most processors had morose, gloomy outlooks. Prices were similar although there was no SPP announced and some monthly contract contributions were still to be agreed,” it said.
“Factory reliability remained an issue coupled with recurring staffing issues. Let’s hope for significant improvements in the New Year.”
The fresh meat trade was steady with low high-street footfall a worry for some, while the cull sow market saw minimal trade as exporters ‘tentatively adjusted’ to the new rules post Brexit. European markets were largely unchanged, as was the Euro at 89.90p.
Weaner movements were limited to regular batches only and concentrated into the middle of the week, with weighbridge availability adding further constraints. There was no AHDB quote given for a 30kg store pig, while the weighted average for a 7kg weaner was quoted at £39.29.
