Food businesses and organisations are being urged to support the UK’s 10th annual Open Farm Sunday event on June 7, helping to increase the 1.25 million people who have a visited a farm since the programme was launched in 2006.
Organised by LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming), the event already draws support from several of the major supermarkets, Defra, AHDB and others, providing a “unique and inspiring opportunity for people of all ages to meet with farmers, find out how their food is produced and connect with the countryside”. Â
“This is a chance to showcase the diversity and quality of farming,” said LEAF’s open farm Sunday manager, Annabel Shackleton.
“There are lots of ways for businesses to get involved, from sponsorship through to link ups with farmers. For example, if you have farms who supply you, then encourage them to open up on June 7, and support them on the day too. This could be by promoting the event to your customers or by having a stand, demonstration or talk at the event.”
Part of LEAF’s long term vision is to create an opportunity where everyone has a chance to visit a farm with the Open Farm Sunday programme being central to this goal.Â
