MSD Animal Health, a division of Merck & Co, has launched a podcast as part of its Growing Healthy Pigs campaign to keep pig farmers up to date with industry news, innovations, and health and welfare advice.
Episodes will be available bi-monthly and upcoming topics include how the industry can back assurance schemes, along with a discussion on consumer perceptions of the pig industry and what can be done to overcome negative stereotypes.
Ingrid Potter, MSD Animal Health UK key account manager, explained the podcast series is set to cover some of the challenges being faced by pig farmers and the industry and how these can be overcome.
Ms Potter said: “We have a great line up of episodes planned, with the first podcast dedicated to discussing how Covid-19 and African Swine Fever (ASF) has affected the global pig sector and how this could impact UK producers.”
“Each episode will also include a section that provides pig producers with practical advice on growing healthy pigs. This will be led by our new Growing Healthy Pigs ambassadors and they’ll be giving their top tips on subjects like biosecurity, vaccination and staff retention.
“There isn’t anything like this available specifically for the UK pig sector, and with many people in the industry often working in isolation, this could offer producers a valuable tool for advice and industry updates,” says Ingrid.
The Growing Healthy Pigs podcast is available on a number of platforms and can be accessed here.
