The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has reported the first African swine fever outbreak in Nepal.
On Thursday May 19, it was reported that six outbreaks of the virus have been recorded on Nepalese pig farms, with 1,426 infections and 934 pig deaths already.
Symptoms within the animals range from fever to nausea, diarrhoea and red patches on the skin. It is also affecting pigs of various ages.
The OIE have reported that the source of the infection’s origin is swill feeding, with it currently being reported in farms in the region of Kathmandu – Nepal’s capital city.
