The latest Pigs Today podcast, out today, discusses the YNPA Challenge 21 and some of the big issues currently facing pig businesses, including record costs of production and staff shortages.
Guests, YNPA vice-chair Jack Bosworth and Anna Longthorp, of Anna’s Happy Trotters, talk about how YNPA members and supporters embraced the three-week, YNPA Challenge 21, which has now finished, covering nearly 1,500 miles and raising, so far, nearly 3,000 for the Farming Community Network. The discussion also covers how pig farmers are coping with the current record high prices, as Jack outlined the huge impact the situation is having on the profitability of the family farming business. It also covered the concerning shortage of labour affecting the entire supply and other hot topics, including the future of farrowing crates.
Jack and Anna also made it clear that, despite all the ongoing challenges, they firmly believe there is a bright future in pig farming for young people with the right attitude, drive and passion.
