Meeting 6 of the North-East Pig Monitor Farm Project will be held on Tuesday 30th January 2018 at Lochter Activity Centre, Oldmeldrum, Inverurie AB51 0DZ. Coffee will be served from 4.00pm with the meeting due to start at 4.30pm. A meal will also be served at 6.00pm.
The meeting will feature –
- The usual update by Patrick on the production figures and progress with the new shed
- “Wayne’s Walkabout” keeping the group up to date with the day to day running of the unit
- Updates on the trials and projects being undertaken and how they are beginning to influence decision making at Carden
An analysis of the P2 measurements of the sows and their impact on sow reproductive performance, including comparison with Lazyfold Farm data for P2’s After supper, we will continue to focus on reproductive management and our guest speaker is Phil Stephenson – Chairman of the NPA producer group who farms 700 sows indoors near York & who will
- Give an overview of his farm
- Discuss why he batches & what benefits he has seen
- Explain why he does a partial depopulation regularly
Describe the one serve technique he used The North-East Pig Monitor Farm Project is jointly supported by Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) and Opportunity North East (ONE) with the aim of the monitor farm project to help improve the profitability, productivity and sustainability of pig producers through practical demonstrations, sharing of best practice and discussion of up-to-date issues.
