The animal health company, Alltech, has acquired Coppens International, a global aquatic feed solutions company based in the Netherlands.
In becoming the 15th company which Alltech has acquired globally since 2011, Coppens is seen as a development which will enhance the parent company’s product range, especially in relation to integrating Alltech’s microalgae and protein platforms.
An established and strong supplier into the pig sector, Alltech said it was “always thinking ahead” as shown by its development of one of the world’s largest commercial algae production sites in Kentucky, USA.
“No longer a buzzword, algae are gaining attention for their application to the feed and food industries as a highly sustainable source of protein and DHA omega-3,” said Alltech, as part of its Coppens acquisition announcement.
Describing Coppens as one of the world’s most innovative nutrition businesses, Alltech said the business has an impressive and dynamic distribution network spread across more than 60 countries, including the Netherlands, France, Germany and Australia.
“Coppens has many qualities we admire, including a robust, quality production system, dynamic routes to market and a pioneering spirit for research and development,” said Alltech’s president, Dr Pearse Lyons. “All combined, these present us with numerous synergies.”
Alltech has more than tripled its sales in the last four years, with current sales revenues in excess of $2 billion (£1.37bn).
