The outworking of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and its greening requirements is beginning to generate some “good news” for the EU’s livestock sector and feed industry, according to Copa and Cogeca.
Reflecting on the latest EU-28 cereals plantings figures, the organisation’s oilseeds working party chairman, Arnaud Rousseau, said he believed protein crop production could be expanded further in the future.
His comment was based on protein crop forecasts showing “potential high protein production” this year, a development which he said was “partly due to the new CAP and greening requirements.
“This is good news for the EU livestock sector and feed industry,” he added. “It is certainly an economic opportunity and we are looking to collaborate with other economic stakeholders to turn greening into green growth.”
