AHDB Pork’s new environment and buildings officer, Emma Slater, comes to the post from a classic pig sector background.
Now charged with helping producers to become more efficient in relation to environmental issues, she used a placement with pig producers, BQP, as the platform for taking a degree in agriculture and animal science at Harper Adams University. Following that, she worked in the formulation team at ForFarmers, prior to her move to AHDB Pork.
“I have really enjoyed my time working in the pig industry because, as an industry, it is so forward thinking,” said Ms Slater, whose family has an arable farm in Suffolk.
“I also have an interest in the environment and that ties in with improving on-farm efficiency.”
