A consultancy offering a range of pig management services has been launched by geneticist, Ed Sutcliffe with the claim that he combines software development, a knowledge of animal breeding/genetics and practical experience of pig production.
Called “Data to Decisions”, the new company is based near Beverley in East Yorkshire, from where Mr Sutcliffe (pictured above) is aiming to “assist with recording, retrieving, interpreting and managing data for both commercial and pedigree breeders” across the UK and overseas.
Having developed his own PigCom electronic recording system, Mr Sutcliffe said he is able to record and analyse production data according to a number of key performance indicators and present the findings in an understandable format.
“Herd owners need to know what is actually happening, rather than what they think is happening, and identify trends to make effective decisions,” he said. “This means having robust data in a format which lends itself to analysis and the ability to interrogate data to improve herd performance and profitability.”
