Two companies have joined forces with the aim to better use production data generated on pig and poultry farms.
It is the shared goal between technology company Farmex and livestock intelligence business Optifarm, who have brought their collective experience together to help farm management.
The project is a development from their previous joint research. funded by innovation agency IUK.

Farmex generates and analyses data from farms through Barn Report Pro, while Optifarm has an app that integrates data from various sources.
AI is then employed to analyse measured parameters such as water use, temperature, or static pressure, and looks for any anomalies and possible correlatory explanations.
These results can then be sent direct to mobile phones and farm offices in real time, enabling decisions to be made immediately.
The overarching goal is to help maximise both animal and bird welfare and create efficient, cost-effective production.
Hugh Crabtree, Farmex director said: “Marrying up Barn Report Pro with the Optifarm app will ensure easier access and tactical use of data, for both pig and poultry farmers.”
The Optifarm app is used in poultry production in several countries and over 10 million pigs across the UK and the US are monitored through Barn Report Pro.
Costs for automatically-generated anomaly detections start at a few pence per house, while charges for more proactive technical support and advice depend on individual requirements.

- Hugh and Optifarm’s CEO, David Speller, will be available on the Farmex stand 11-380 at this week’s British Pig and Poultry Fair to answer questions on the use of data capture in precision faming.
