Pig World‘s “Win an iPad Mini” competition, which was running throughout this year’s Pig Fair, has been won by Patrick Twigger who farms near Frome in Somerset.
Mr Twigger (pictured) runs an 800-head finishing unit producing pigs to RSPCA-Assured and Red Tractor standards. Weaners are bought in at six-weeks old and finished on straw. They are fed on meal milled using the farm’s own cereals from its 600-acre arable enterprise, and are currently sold at the rate of about 40 week to an independent abattoir.
Mr Twigger’s diversified business also composts green waste from local authority waste sites, and this, in conjunction with pig muck, is being used to improve the soil on the farm.
