Pig farming’s most formidable ‘front row’ were honoured by campaigning pig farming colleagues, with a presentation to mark their support this year.
Former NPA chair Richard Longthorp, NPA vice chair Hugh Crabtree and veteran industry campaigner John Cusson have provided a ‘safety blanket, counselling service, fountain of knowledge and experience in campaigning’, as the #BiteIntoBritish campaign has raised awareness over the industry’s plight over the past year or so, according to Anna Longthorp, one of the key figures behind the campaign.
“They have put in the muscle, whilst the rest of us have engaged the media and done the fluffy socials. They have been encouraging and motivating yet challenging to make sure we cover all bases.
“We just wanted to show our gratitude and that of the wider industry, so we presented with a little something in recognition of their unwavering support.”
Hugh and Richard, pictured centre, received their awards at a meal in Pocklington, near York, flanked by Anna, Kate Morgan, Vicky Morgan and Duncan Berkshire. John Cusson, who couldn’t make the meal, received his later in the day.
#BiteIntoBritish
The #BiteIntoBritish campaign has been active in December. The Morgan sisters, and, at times, special guests, again delivered their musical take on the 12 days of Christmas to highlight the range of quality British products available for the festive table.
Well-known Yorkshire-based pig vet Duncan Berkshire has also been tweeted on a daily basis, urging the public to ‘support our UK farmers – make sure it’s British and shout about it’, and pledging to donate to farming charities, in some cases raising awareness for the OddBalls Foundation, which raises awareness of testicular cancer.
