Pig producers are being urged to participate in a research study led by Imperial College London, focusing on disease surveillance and testing within the pig industry.
This research, conducted by Anna Mariani (Research Assistant) in collaboration with ProtonDx, aims to explore how pig farmers and vets currently manage disease detection and prevention.
ProtonDx is developing a new point-of-care (POC) testing device capable of identifying multiple infections affecting pigs, including PRRS, influenza, and strep. The study seeks to gather valuable feedback to ensure the device meets your practical needs.
The research team is seeking participants willing to share their experiences. Participation would involve a visit to your farm or veterinary practice in February or March 2025, scheduled during normal working hours at your convenience.
The visit will include some observation of your day-to-day tasks and a brief interview. The research team is flexible and happy to work around your availability and constraints. Participation is entirely voluntary, and all information shared will be treated confidentially.
“We would very much appreciate you considering this opportunity to help shape the development of new testing tools that aim to improve pig health and help tackle endemic diseases like PRRS. Your input would be invaluable,” said Anna, who has teamed up with the NPA to encourage participation in the project.
