The producer share of the retail pork price decreased by one percentage point on the month during October to 42%, on par with the level recorded in April.
According to AHDB analysis, although this is three percentage points above the same time last year the gap is narrowing. On a historical basis the producer share still remains relatively high.
The average retail price increased by less than 1% (1.2p/kg) and was a similar level to the same month last year. Conversely, the EU-spec APP fell by 3%, which combined with the retail price to drive the producer share down.
Regarding individual cuts the picture was more constant than earlier in the year. Many cuts remained steady or recorded small increases in price from the previous month. Compared to this time last year however, the picture is more mixed. Most cuts recorded modest increases of 1% year-on-year, although fillet end leg retail prices increased by 4% and prices for fillet of pork were up 5%. Boneless shoulders were the only cut to record a year-on-year decline, of 3%.
