Mr Reed, who moves over from the role of Shadow Justice Secretary, replaces Jim McMahon, who resigned from the Shadow Cabinet on Monday, prior to the reshuffle.

The Croydon MP also held the role of Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary from 2020 to 2021 and, prior to his election to Parliament, he was leader of Lambeth London Borough Council from 2006 to 2012.
Mr Reed said he was ‘delighted’ to be appointed to the role. “I will work tirelessly to preserve our precious nature, win a fairer deal for farmers, tackle food price inflation and end the scandal of sewage being dumped in our rivers, lakes and seas,” he said.
He thanked Mr McMahon for his ‘excellent work as my predecessor, including exposing how the Tories have undermined British farming and damaged our waterways with their shameful sewage scandal’ and wished him well.
Mr McMahon said he wanted to focus on getting his health back to full strength, after receiving hospital treatment for an infection.
