Pigs Tomorrow, the industry event of the year, gets underway today, with a look at the unprecedented dynamics currently shaping the global pork market.
The two-day conference, bringing together expert speakers from the UK and around the world, will kick off with the International Outlook Conference on day one in Leicestershire.
Speakers will include Richard Brown, director of international market analysts, Gira, as well as high profile representatives from the Russian, Canadian and Dutch pig sector. Tulip agriculture director Andrew Saunders will deliver the UK perspective.
They will all be trying to make sense of how increased Chinese, combined with other variables like Brexit, will affect the medium- and long-term outlook for the pork sector.
On Wednesday, the Innovation Conference will focus in on some of the big on-farm issues, such as tail biting, with a detailed look at some of the technological advances taking place within the sector.

The gala dinner, at the end of day one, will feature guest speaker, Monty Halls, a former Royal Marines officer and trained marine biologist, broadcaster and explorer.
There are still places available for the event, jointly organised by Pig World and AHDB, which will take place at the Jurys Inn hotel, near Hinckley, in Leicestershire, on Tuesday and Wednesday (May 14 and 15). See below for details of how to attend.
Angela Christison, AHDB’s pork strategy director, said: “AHDB is delighted to be co- organising Pigs Tomorrow along with Pig World, which promises to be the industry event of the year, backed by a stellar line-up of speakers and a dedicated trade show area.
“With the event rapidly approaching, now is the last chance to get tickets, so I recommend that you don’t delay and book now, rather than miss out on the presentations and network opportunities that will be possible at this event.
“AHDB looks forward to welcoming you to Pigs Tomorrow, at a key point in time for the pig industry in the UK and beyond.”
Jalil Ibrahim-Basha, product manager at MSD Animal Helath, the event’s principal sponsor, said: “We are delighted to be the main sponsor for Pigs Tomorrow, which will bring the pig industry together to discuss some of the most important issues facing our sector. It is going to be an exciting event with so much to consider at this critical time for the pig industry.
“We look forward to welcoming people to our stand to discuss our new Growing Healthy Pigs initiative, developed to support the UK pig industry.”
Pig World publisher Simon Lewis said: “We are really pleased to be able to present speakers of this calibre to inform and entertain delegates at Pigs Tomorrow.
“We have had an excellent response so far, but there are still tickets available – it is an event not to be missed and we would love to see you there!.”
