Olivia Hartshorn has joined Staffordshire-based specialist pig housing manufacturer, ARM Buildings, on a one-year placement from Harper Adams University, where she is studying for a degree in agricultural engineering.
As data services assistant, Liv will be analysing performance data from new and existing ARM piggeries that are monitored under a system provided by Farmex.
She will be the first point of contact for farmers with queries and will also be looking at specific technical issues, such as the running costs of various ventilation systems and water use and drinking patterns among differing ages and classes of pig.
She will report to Tim Miller, ARM’s environmental specialist and Dr Sadie Douglas, Farmex’s data services manager.
As the daughter of a Staffordshire agricultural dealer, Liv already has a background in agricultural engineering, but believes this placement will provide her with valuable experience and an insight into precision farming developments within the pig industry.
