Harper Adams and AHDB Pork are seeking additional firms to sponsor pig industry students, expanding the commercial support pool which is already backing the Pig Industry Scholarship programme.
“The firms that have so far taken part have all found it extremely beneficial and are keen to continue participating as often as they can,” said AHDB Pork skills development co-ordinator, Sam Bowsher (pictured above), adding that a number of students from Harper Adams who hadn’t initially considered the pig industry as a career have been attracted as a result of the scholarship offer.
“However, we are also keen to attract as many new firms and organisations to take part.”
Launched by the NPA Allied Industry Group to recruit highly qualified and committed young entrants into the pig industry, and now administered by Harper Adams and AHDB Pork, the scheme includes a paid placement year.
This requires a sponsor company to finance the 12-month placement, plus an initial scholarship of £4,500. There is also the potential for a further scholarship of £4,500 in the final year.
