The pig industry scholarship scheme is now open to recruit students for its fourth year, backed by seven commercial firms which will provide year-long placements for successful students.
The scheme, which is based at Harper Adams University and initiated by AHDB Pork, was set up to establish long term relationships between industry and students. A scholarship fair will be held at the university in October when the sponsoring firms will have the opportunity to find the students they need.
“One of the key challenges for the pig industry is to attract and retain talented people,” said scheme chairman, Nick Major.
“The scholarship scheme was established to demonstrate the wide range of career options available in the industry and I am delighted we are now about to start the process for the 4th year.”
Scholarship opportunities on offer represent areas from across the whole industry, such as nutrition, engineering and equipment, animal health and practical pig production. Companies taking part this year are Provimi, ForFarmers, CEVA, Rattlerow Farms, Devenish Nutrition, Quality Equipment and AB Agri.
