AHDB’s export team is hosting an event in Miami, this November, where buyers from the US market will be able to sample red meat and cheese from the UK.
Roughly 50 key buyers have been invited to the AHDB reception, taking place on Wednesday, November 9, to try samples of UK beef, lamb, pork and cheese, in a bid to boost UK-US exports.
At the reception, guests will sample more than 20 British cheeses, alongside a selection of canapés, before enjoying a pork, lamb and beef carvery meal. AHDB butcher Martin Eccles will also be attending, where he will perform a butchery demonstration to highlight the versatility and innovation of red meat from the UK.
This Miami event follows the first shipment of British lamb to the US, after an agreement was reached with US authorities to amend the ‘small ruminant’ rule which had prevented the export of lamb from the UK and other countries for more than 20 years.
Susana Morris, AHDB’s senior export manager, said: “The [US] market is very important to us because it provides an opportunity to export our products not just to America, but also to the Caribbean and the recently opened markets of Mexico and Chile.
“The reception will allow us to showcase the taste of red meat from the UK, whilst promoting our high animal welfare and husbandry, which is valued in the US, who welcome our continued low usage of antibiotics.”
AHDB senior export manager for Dairy, Lucy Randolph commented: “Exports of dairy products to America have been growing over the last few years, with more and more consumers in the US market enjoying and choosing British cheese.
“This event is part of a programme of activity organised by AHDB to showcase our dairy products in the US and continue delivering huge benefits to our levy payers, who tell us they value the work of our export team.”
