NPA members now have just one week left to vote to elect a new NPA Pig Industry Group from a strong field of 20 candidates from across the pig sector.
The deadline for voting is midday, February 22.
NPA chief executive Lizzie Wilson said: “If you haven’t voted yet, we really urge to do so over the next few days, while you still can!
“We are thrilled to have such a strong field of candidates in both the producer and allied industry elections, with a good blend of experience and new blood. It is going to be a very competitive election.
“We urge all our members to read the manifestos and use the power of your vote to elect the strongest possible candidates to guide us through this vital time of transformation for the pig sector, over their three-year terms.”
The candidates include a mix of current PIG members and those seeking to represent their sector on the NPA’s decision-making body for the first time. They will be competing for 12 places, eight for producers and four for allied industry, on the streamlined PIG.

How the elections work
NPA members will now elect the 12 members of the PIG:
- The newly elected group will consist of eight producers and four allied industry members.
- Producers will be elected on the basis of the most votes received, rather than a regional basis, as previously.
- Efforts will be made to ensure a balance between indoor and outdoor production and independent and corporate producers.
- Allied members will be elected via most votes in four categories – buildings/equipment, health, marketing/processing and nutrition/feed.
Voting process and rules
- Voting via email opened on Monday, January 22, with ballot forms emailed to members and available in the Members’ Area of the website. Forms should be returned to: ELECTIONS@NPANET.ORG.UK
- Postal ballots are being sent, on request.
- Voting closes at midday on Thursday, February 22. The results will be published in the March edition of Pig World and on the NPA website.
- You can only vote if you are a paid-up member of NPA. Only one vote may be cast per membership number – you must therefore agree who puts the casting vote forward.
- Producer members can only vote for producer candidates and allied industry members can only vote for allied industry candidates.
- A current producer member may vote for up to eight producer candidates.
- A current allied industry member may vote for up to four allied industry candidates.
