BPEX wants more vets to download its pig sampling app for smartphones and tablets for use in relation to Real Welfare (RW) assessments, warning that the bureau service option will not be continuing indefinitely.
About half RW assessments being done by vets are now being submitted either through the portal or the app, according to BPEX. That means, of course, that the other 50% are still relying in the bureau service.
The message being issued to vet practices, therefore, is that they must start taking active steps to tail off their use of the bureau and step up using either the app or portal.
“To get the most out of a RW visit by a vet, it is important to review the results at the time,” said BPEX health and welfare projects manager, Katja Stoddart, adding that if the app is used this becomes easy as it offers immediate feedback and a visual representation for discussion.
“It is an extremely important tool for both producers and vets and can highlight where improvements can be made.
“Uptake of the app has been steady but we still have some way to go and I would encourage all vets to download it.”
