Danish farm studies have shown that using Circovac vaccination to combat Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2) goes on working to the end of finishing, according to vaccine suppliers, Merial Animal Health.
The studies looked at eight units which had vaccinated their piglets with Circovac at three weeks of age for at least six months, with serum samples being taken on each farm from four groups at four growth stages (30-35kg, 40-50kg, 60-70kg and 80-100kg). Merial reported that no PCV2 DNA was identified in any of the samples.
Merial Animal Health’s pig technical manager, Callum Blair, said the results clearly showed the sustained efficacy of the vaccine.
“The fact that the results were negative in all the weight groups demonstrates that the vaccine carries on working through to finishing,” he said.
